What is Confirmation?

Confirmation is a public rite of the church preceded by a period of instruction designed to help baptized Christians identify with the life and mission of the Christian community.

-Luther's Small Catechism

Chapel recognizes that Confirmation is a significant spiritual rite, but that it is also a process. Through instruction, we hope that youth learn about their Christian faith, continue to experience what it means to be a member of the body of Christ, and are encouraged to consider how they intend to live out their lives as Christians. The process culminates with the confirmand making a public confession of his or her faith through Confirmation vows.

Our Confirmation program is a three-year commitment to growing in one’s faith to the point of dependence on God (6th grade, 7th grade, and 8th grade, with the Rite of Confirmation in October of their 9th grade year). The goal is really two-fold: head knowledge and heart application. It is expected that during these three years of commitment, a student will trust fully in Christ as his/her Lord and Savior. Confirmation at Chapel is an interactive, hands-on, and learning-based model.
