Chapel of the Cross

March 19, 2021
Dear Chapel of the Cross,
This week marks the one-year anniversary of the Covid pandemic affecting our regular church life, as one year ago we shut down all live in-person worship services, Sunday School classes, all bibles studies and on campus ministries. There has been much loss among our members, and yet God has been faithful in shepherding us, His flock. As we grow closer to Easter we know more than ever how important the promise of the resurrection of our bodies and the life everlasting is through Jesus Christ, our Savior.
As we grow closer to Easter we also know that we need to begin to take small steps back to our regular church life. The Covid pandemic has changed things in our lives and culture. We will not just flip a switch and go back to normal. We know this. Yet, we also know small steps back to gathering as our Good Shepherd would have us gather is important. Here are some of the small steps we will be taking with the Easter season:
1.  For those who would like to worship without a mask, on Easter Sunday we will offer a 9:30am service outdoors in the lower parking lot. Bring your own chair. Our Easter services indoors at 6, 8, and 10:45am will all remain masks only. The 8am will be live-streamed. Communion will be offered at all 4 services.
2. Beginning Saturday April 10th our Saturday 5pm services will be mask optional. On 2nd and 4th Saturdays, non -communion services, we will worship outdoors weather permitting. Otherwise, the Saturday night service will be our first mask optional service offered. Our Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday services, for now, will remain mask only. We are making these changes in worship services based on the current decline of the major Covid indicators (prevalence, positivity, hospitalizations) in St. Charles County. If these indicators were to ever change for the worse, we would at that point, reassess our worship plans.
3. In an effort to begin to rebuild our Sunday Education Classes, we will be moving our 10:45am service up to 10:15am. We are moving the Sunday late service up for now because we cannot expect late service people who want to attend Sunday Education Classes to wait for 45 minutes till the service begins. Sunday Education Classes will run from 9:15am – 10am and masks must be worn.
a)   Our Family Bible Study for 6th graders and younger with parents will be offered for in our gymnasium led by Rachel Hoag.
b) Our 7th graders – High School Youth will meet in Room 224 led by Andrew Nelson.
c) Our Adult Bible Study will continue in the Sanctuary and via live-stream led by a pastor or seminarian.
Know that as we take these small steps, we always want you to have options where you can feel comfortable in worship. Please, if you have any concerns, reach out to us and talk to us about how you feel. We are here for you.
In Christ,
The Chapel of the Cross Pastors, Staff, and Leadership
